Molton Brown operates in the personal care sector supplying bath and body skin care and colour cosmetic products. Its principal markets are the luxury hotel and travel markets, although it also had a proprietary retail business through concessions and wholly-owned stores.

Bridgepoint first took a minority stake in the company in 1994 and in 2003 subsequently led an institutional buy-out of the business. Recognising with management that the Molton Brown brand had sufficient critical mass to sustain further growth in the UK, it then rolled out its owned stores network including in cities around the world. The company also developed other retail channels such as spa treatments and in-flight sales.
